Advisory Board

Prof. Das is a Post Graduate in Applied Economics from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. He received government of India Fellowship to undertake the Post Master’s Certificate Course in Population Sciences (CPS) in 1983-84 and qualified for the subsequent prestigious Fellowship from the Government of India to undertake a Post Masters Degree Course in Advanced Studies in Population Sciences, (DPS) during 1984-85, in Population Sciences from the International Institute of Population Sciences- IIPS, a Leading Apex Internationally acclaimed Educational and Research Institute set up jointly by the GOI and the UN) at Bombay. He received the prestigious German Government fellowship twice from the Federal Republic of Germany (1994 and 1998) to undergo educational and training programmes in Methods and Techniques in Project Planning and Management including M & E at the German Foundation for International Development (DSE), Berlin as part of German government collaborative educational and cooperation programme for Asia, Africa and Latin American Countries. BMZ and GtZ provided the technical and resources support in these programmes.

Afterwards, Prof. Das was involved with many national and international development organizations and was working in the rural and social development sectors in association with leading CSOs/NGOs and a few reputed European Donor Agencies like, German Agro Action (DWHH-Bonn), ECHO and European Union, Cord Aid (The Netherlands), Broderijk Delen (Belgium), DIAKONIA (Sweden), TROCAIRE (Ireland), EZE, ICCO, Bread for the World (Germany), Lutheran World Relief (LWR-USA), Wetlands International and so on. Prof. Das has worked as an advisor-cum-consultant on Watershed Development to the CAPART, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. During this tenure, he had the opportunity to work on strengthening the Watershed Guidelines of CAPART. Prof. Das has also worked as a advisor and consultant to the Indo-Swiss Project of Orissa (ISPO) on a long term basis dealing with the animal husbandry sector of the development. Prof Das was the head of the Rural Development and Management Wing (Centre for Development, Research and Training) and a Management Advisory Committee (MAC) of the Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) for twelve years. During this period, he was working as an advisor and long term consultant to DFID, the World Bank, and UNDP and was nominated to many important committees of the state and central government including FIVIMS, Department of Panchayati Raj, ORMAS, Planning and Coordination Department, nominated as a governing board member (Social Sector) of the Orissa Mining Corporation of the state government. Prof. Das has been instrumental in contributing to disseminating and contributing to development policies, planning of many important projects in Odisha including the DFID supported WORLP- a Watershed + Programme. Mr. Das was instrumental in shaping many Organisations and programmes and projects through appropriate designs and collaboration strategies with many NGOs and international agencies. Prof. Das has undertaken many important consultancy projects related to Water Resources- Watershed Development, Pani Panchayat, Community Tank Management Project (OCTMP-WB), Public Information in WRs, Institution Building, Panchayati Raj, Preparation of District Planning, District NFFWP Reports, etc. Besides, Prof Das has worked in collaboration with Central Institute for Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA)-an ICAR lead institute for the NAIP-ICAR Project for two tribal and backward districts of the state of Orissa. International University collaboration was part of his responsibilities for field research. Prof Das presented paper and findings of research at CIDIN, Radboud University, Nijmejen, The Netherlands. He was advisor for VRO-an organisation supported by Belgian donors HQ at Hyderabad. After this, Prof. Das joined at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Tuljapur campus in the year 2012 initially as an Associate Professor and later became a Dean of the same campus. During this period 2012-2019 Prof. Das was involved in various academic and campus administration activities including being the Dean, teaching the Master’s Programme in MASW and Rural Development, Member of the Board of Studies, Member of the panel on Admission and Tests, member of various staff and Faculty empanelment, Panel member for library, Selection Panel of International Students Office of the campus (IRO), heading the Placement Cell (CGPC), Students’ Affairs, Heading the Panel of Students’ Aid and so on. Interface with day to day work with Mumbai and other three campuses of TISS was an ever challenging task. Prof. Das was also invited as a Board of Study Member of the Department of Economics of Mumbai University. His interest revolves around Academic (Teaching) and Research interventions in Rural and Institutional Development -Policy, Planning and Programme. Development Planning and Designing Implementation Strategies with inclusive patterns of development with the principles of equity and social justice are part of his professional passion. He is also passionate about developing and designing Curriculum for Rural Development and Management Programmes, Designing Field Learning Engagement of Students within the framework of two year or one year course designs. Prof Das teaches multidisciplinary theme based courses in Rural Development and management and in Social Work disciplines. Some of the subjects are Food Security, Right to Food, Livelihoods and Governance, Methods and Techniques in Project Planning and Management, Monitoring and Evaluation in Development Projects, Natural Resources and Governance, Management of Social Development Organisations, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
